Green Light for Stockport 8 Marks a New Chapter for the Town Centre
The Stockport 8 regeneration project has officially secured planning approval, marking a major milestone in the transformation of the town centre.

Stockport is about to take a big step forward in its journey toward becoming one of the UK’s most sustainable and liveable towns.
The approved plans cover an 8-acre site that will evolve into a walkable, vibrant neighbourhood with 1,300 new homes, high-quality green spaces, and stronger connections to the wider community. Phase 1 has received detailed planning consent, while outline consent has been granted for the remaining phases.
Phase 1 will deliver 435 net-zero standard homes, a new public square beside the viaduct, streets designed for walking and cycling, commercial and community spaces, biodiversity features such as green roofs and new trees.
Construction is set to begin in 2026, bringing this vision closer to reality. Stockport 8 will not only provide much-needed homes but also create a thriving environment where people can live, work, and connect.
This is more than just a development. It’s a long-term investment in the future of Stockport and its community, and an exciting sign of what’s to come.
